A month ago I bought new battery for my sony viao. I didnt buy through sony, but made sure of the compatibility with my model. At first it seemed to have a little problem recognizing it, charging at times, not charging sometimes. After a while, it started to work without any problem and I was happy.
Until yesterday. I decided to reformat my hard drive. Upon successful completion of the reformatting, a "caution'' window popped up saying something along the lines of: could not recognize the battery, computer will go in hibernation, pull out the battery and place it again. I followed the instructions, but that window kept on popping up after each restart. It was quite annoying because it would automatically center itself on the screen without the possibility of ignoring it. I eventually find a way to kill a process that was generating the window through task manager. The problem I have is that even though the computer works fine when not plugged in (i.e, computer working on battery only), the battery doesnt charge... How can the computer not recognized the battery and yet use it as a power supply? Has anyone had a similar problem and knows how to fix it?
Thx

If needed Ihave a sony vaio vgn-fs740/w, running on windows xp

Best is to buy through Sony.

Unfortunately, your laptop's firmware is able to detect a non-supported battery pack, that's why that pop-up & non-charging situations.
