Laptop battery?

I have a Detel laptop that was given to me for repairing another pc.

The owner said it had battery problems, so today I replaced the Battery.

The laptop works great while connected to the AC supply and the charging lite and the battery program shows that the battery is charging.

Seems ok,

Even let it sit off, but charging overnight.

Today if I unplug the ac power cord the laptop dies as if I never charged up a new battery.
While connected to ac the program says the battery is charging and it at is 98%. but If will not startup if the ac is not plugged in.

Help!!

Since you already replaced the battery and it's still shutting down when you unplug the AC adapter, the motherboard will need to be replaced more than likely. You could spend a looong time trying to figure out what motherboard component is messed up, and is preventing the battery from providing power back to the laptop. Most folks bite the bullet and get a new MB in this type of situation.

I'm good with PCs, but this is my first laptop and I've got a lot to learn about battery systems and charging.

It's a Detel CL51, I've searched the internet for information about this unit but found info from United Kingdom.

The Detel company only has "the leave a message" on their web site.

I'm glad I didn't buy this laptop, no support compare to others brands.

The unit sits there and the charging lights blinks blinks slowly and like normal laptop, when the battery is charged the charging stops.
Everything acts normal, unless I got a bad battery online.

It's a panasonic.

I was just looking in the power settings of the laptop and saw this:

Panasonic

Battery.....Lion

Power State..... Online Discharging

Is discharging the state a new battery should be in after plugged in overnight?

Again, I don't know the batery/charging/discharging cycling of a laptop.

I've owned three laptop to this date, and never had a problem with any one.

The HP laptop I have is 7 years old and the battery is still good, but I only charge it when Im using it. Otherwise it stays off and unplugged.

Someone tell me about the discharging status,

Many thanks

If its plugged in and it still says discharging then you have an issue. But if the charger isn't connected and it says discharging then its supposed to say that.

We just got back home and I had the laptop off but plugged in while we were gone.

I turned it on and quickly checked the batery meter. it still gives the same reading under Power State: 99% charged Online Discharging with the new Panasonic battery.

Is it the motherboard, the power supply charging issue, or something else.

And I just swapped he battery and installed the old battery, the battery meter says Power state 0% charge .................

The new battery has a 99% charge and as soon as I unplug the cord, the unit dies...

Still in need of help

Is it an internal or external battery? I had some problems with my internal battery getting to hot from leaving my laptop on my bed. I had the exact problems as you. It detected the battery and said it was charged but as soon as I disconnected it from the power supply it would die. All I ended up doing was disconnect it and reconnect it and this solved the issue.
