Laptop configuration not make sense

I began looking into upgrading my old laptop which is a gateway P6313. All the main components are easily accesible so its not a big job at all. I added a 2nd internal hard drive since it had an empty 2nd bay. Now I am looking to increase the cpu. The motherboard spec states fsb 533/667/800 so I was gonna drop in a t7700 cpu which is socket P and 65nm like the current t2390 cpu it came with (but alot more powerful). I then noticed the memory is 667mhz and the cpu is 533mhz and I didnt think that made sense. It seems that gateway put in a slower fsb cpu but faster memory and if thats the case, can I put in 800mhz memory? The t7700 is 800mhz as well. I just wanna maximize what I can do with this motherboard. Any help is appreciated. Here is link to motherboard specs at gateway website: http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/2007/Godzilla/4006242R/4006242Rsp2.shtml

Yes, you can add ddr2 800 memory to that model. But you won't notice much difference if any at all.

I was hoping by upgradin cpu from t2390 at 1.86 w/ 1MB cache and 533 mhz with 667 mhz ram to t7700 at 2.4 w/ 4MB cache at 800 mhz with 800 mhz ram would give some kind of noticable improvement

The processor is gonna be the most noticeable difference. Again, you won't notice much if any at all going from 667 mhz to 800mhz. Although 800 mhz sticks may be cheaper.
