Laptop cooler

I've been thinking of getting myself one of these the other day when my friend told me not to. When I asked him why, he then told me that the usb that is connected to the laptop will generate more power consumption. Can you guys give me some of your insights? thanks in advance.

I use a CoolMaster Laptop cooler, in which has one 200mm fan. Power consumption is minimal and can't really be seen on mine.

That one looks pretty cook, but will it work all that much? Doesn't look like it would create a lot of air flow. 2x 40mm?
 
USB powered laptop coolers are very weak. Find one that you need to plug into the wall, if you're really that concerned with temps.

Maybe it's just me, but when i think of laptops i always think of not being plugged in. So a USB one (in my mind) is behind the soul purpose of not being plugged in.

If it's for one spot and one spot only, by all means, plugg the b*tch in. But if it is for portable reasons, USB one is ideal.
 
I agree with you. I was thinking more along the lines of a laptop-desktop replacement. Like a gaming one... would need more power.

Usb powered ones are ok,but if you really want to ensure it will cool your laptop.One that runs off a outlet is a beter choice.Some laptops do run hot.laying some fresh thermal down will help alot.Most companys do shoty thermal jobs,making the laptop run hot & eventually shut down from overheating.
Using a usb powered cooler will help,but don't expect a big difference.It also depends on the area you are using the laptop.A hot room will make a laptop run hot.

USB won't create more heat for your laptop, it will still cool it, but won't cool as much as a plug in one.

Like i said i have a CoolMaster laptop cooler. Not the top of the line by any means (Bought for $30). I noticed that it didn't bring down my temps too much at idle, but it helped keeping my temps low while working on my laptop.

Theres the question of do you want the cooler to be more portable or not. And how low do you need to bring down your temps. That will help you decide what to do.
 
Thank you for all your comments, based on your comments I think I'll get me a USB cooler since it's more convenient to use.
 
Laptop Cooler with clamp?

I'm looking for a laptop cooler that will clamp onto my laptop keeping the laptop attached to it. Does anyone know of something like this? Thank you :)

i think i can tell you something about it,newfrog.com has many kinds of laptop cooler,i have just known it from my friend, you can go to have a look and maybe you will find what you like,to shop or not to shop,it is your decision
