Laptop Cooling

I have a HP Pavillion dv9000z and it gets so hot after a while. What are some good cooling options? I was looking at laptop cooling mats on newegg, but I'm not sure which ones are good, especially for a 17". The main exhaust is the back left corner, any recommendations?

jp198780 - Cooling pads are NOT the only solution to cooling laptops...

Running less at once could probably help out a good bit. Cut your processes down if possible. Also, you can always find software to make it run slower(SpeedswitchXP) I underclock my laptop and it really helps out. Of course you can bump it back up easilly. If you had a Dell, I know there's a program that lets you control the fan(speed it up manually) SpeedFan can do that with a few laptops, but few recent ones. Finally, just plain running on batteries tends to make it cooler just because there are no extra voltages running though the system. But that's more unnescary usage of the batteries :P

Same laptop buddy, only I have an Intel not an AMD. I got a cheap Targus cooling pad at Best Buy for 20 bucks and it works fine, keeps it from getting so hot. It's a cheap little pad that goes under the laptop with two quiet fans... doesn't seem like much but it does it's job.

You might want to check the cooling fans. My daughter's laptop ran very hot. We returned it to the store where we had purchased it to have them look it over. They found a significant amount of lint and dust blocking the cooling fan!

yeah, that is a likely problem, but i've only had mine for a week. hasn't had time to build up anything in the fans. i know the heat is from the nvidia 256mb card and the amd x2 processor. i'm just looking for a way to alleviate it somewhat. thanks.

yeah, i was just gonn say, the AMD processor is where the heat is coming from, a cooling pad should keep it cool..
