I did not use my 3 year old HP laptop for the past 4 - 5 months. It was left plugged in at an outlet (with a cheap surge protector) with the battery inside the computer in my basement. Today, I tried turning it on and nothing happened. The "port" where I plugged in the charger cord has a lit blue light so it is probably not a problem with the cord itself as the light is working. However, the lights on the left hand corner near the wrist rest that indicated when the CPU was working or when the computer was being charged remained unlit and nothing happened when I pressed the "on" button. Thinking that perhaps the "on" button was broken, I tried touching the touch-sensitive Quick Play button (this is an "entertainment laptop" that has this feature) to turn on the laptop and still nothing. Then, I tried turning on the laptop with the remote that was part of the laptop and still nothing. I had used all 3 of these features in the past so I am fairly certain that it is not a user error. Lastly, I pulled out the battery and plugged in the laptop. Still, the laptop did not turn and I have run out of ideas.
It seems some circuit or interior wiring was fried or maybe the humidity was too high during this 4 month hiatus when the laptop was plugged in and thus the computer no longer turns on. Any suggestions on how I can turn on the laptop or at the very least retrieve my data? I desperately want to recover the baby pictures of my two kids. That would be the most devastating loss for my family.
I did not notice anything out of the ordinary with the operation of the laptop the last time I used it. My other laptops are also stored in the basement but none of them have any such issues with not being able to turn on when the charger is plugged in.
Your help and suggestions are much appreciated!
