Laptop crashes and screen turn black..help?

Hi,

My Laptop has the same problem everyday. When I'm using it, the laptop randomly crashes, I can't move the mouse, I can't do anything on the laptop, shortly the screen will turn black, and then I hear the laptop became louder, it sounds like it was working harder after the screen turned black. This happens everyday. Anyone can help me?
 
Could be hardware or software, but I'm kind of leaning towards software... Safe mode, as mentioned, is a good place to start. Or, while in Normal mode, try closing programs running in the background (firewalls, AIM, virus scans, etc) If it continues to happen, take note what you're doing when it does. If could be something such as a bug in a program you run, or some kind of mis-configured application.
