Laptop crashes, requires multiple restarts

Hi guys, I'm running Windows XP SP3.

Sometimes, when I'm working on my laptop, it crashes suddenly without warning. If I restart, it crashes again when the Windows XP loading screen is displayed. Upon multiple restarts, it finally starts. The thing runs fine for a few days, but then the same thing happens.

It isn't a specific application based issue, as far as I can see, i.e. it does not happen when I'm running a specific application.

Any ideas?

Thanks! :)

Is there a message? Could it be overheated?

Nopes. No message.

Could overheating be an issue even as early as 20-25 minutes from startup (and I'm starting after an interval of 15 hours)?

And is there any solution to overheating? Just not using my laptop for long periods of time?

I know my laptop used to be so hot, it almost burnt. You can blow out the dust from the vents with some compressed air. But, that may not be the problem. Have you done a memtest yet?
