Laptop / Desktop for 4k Editing

Hey,

I am new here and I am not that knowledgeable with computer tech unfortunately! I am based in the UK but any help will be greatly appreciated and im sure I can transfer the advice over to what we have for sale over here.

I have bought a Gopro hero 4 black and was very naive as to how much computer power it takes to edit the 4k resolution footage.

I would like a machine that is capable of playing & editing the footage I make. I would like to do this as cheap as I can! Below £600 if possible?

A laptop would be preferable because I do travel around a fair bit but it isn't essential because none of the projects I do will have a particular deadline. So if it is likely to work out a lot cheaper I will probably opt for building a desk top.

Any suggestions on what would be an adequate machine for what I need?

If I went down the building a desktop route, where should I be concentrating my money?

Does anyone have experience editing 4k footage? If so what set up have you got?

Thank You in advance!

This is just an idea, being from the US, dealing in GBP is a little difficult. Hopefully another member can help out.

The requirments set by GoPro mention a Haswell Intel chip or an AND A10-7800K paired with at least 8GB of memory (speed matters).

Since you most likely aren't editing with a 4K display, you can always go for a i5 chip and a Nvidia graphics card such as the GTX 750ti or 760. The Radeon R9 270X is also in the entry area and will be sufficient.

If you are not OC and need to squeeze OS and monitor in to budget. You can consider i5 instead...

Thank you both for your replies!
I think I am going to spend a bit more time saving to be able to go for the i7 processor and a decent monitor!

Where would you say is the best place to focus my money on if I could afford it, a better graphics card or more RAM?
