Laptop Dimming on Battery

So I'm running Windows 7 on an Inspiron 1318, and my display dims immediately whenever the laptop is unplugged, despite the fact that no display setting I can think of would cause that. My Windows power options-plan pettings are set to maximum brightness, and the "power settings" on my graphics display driver are disabled.

Incidentally, perhaps, I looked for driver updates on dell's website and discovered that for the Inspiron, they don't classify any of the updates as being relevant for Windows 7-32 bit, which I'm running; I ended up downloading a driver update from Intel directly (see below for specs), but that hasn't solved the problem.

Any suggestions?

Specs:
Dell Inspiron 1318
Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (6.1, Build 7600)
Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A05
Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family (display)

It's part of the laptop's power features, not windows. If you want it brighter on battery, just hold the Fn button and tap the up arrow (usual key on a Dell) to brighten the screen.

Thanks for the quick reply--but I forgot to mention that when it's unplugged, using Fn+Up/Down won't get the computer any brighter, although you can get dimmer and then back up to the level that it was when you unplugged it--um, so that might not make sense, but basically if my laptop is normally at brightness 10, when you unplug it it goes down to like 5, and then Fn+Up/Down can bring it down to 1 but only back up to 5.

Go into the power saving controls in the control panel. There you should be able to set the settings when it is unplugged.

If it is not software level, then it may be BIOS level. Go into your BIOS and look at the power save settings, or turn off the advanced power management options in your BIOS.
