Laptop Disaster - how to system restore

I have had a disaster on my Lenovo Laptop and have been desperately trying to do a system restore.

When all my browsers were inundated with adverts all over the place I thought a system reset would help. How wrong I was, nearly everthing is lost.

I attempted a system restore but that did not work as I could not find out how to set it for say yesterday rather than now.

Could someone advise me how I could do a syatem restore to say a couple of days ago.

You mean you performed a factory restore? If that's what you did, then everything has been wiped and reset. You can't perform a system restore to yesterday, and all your data is gone.
 
System restore

Im sure it wasent to factory settings as some of my programs (not all) are still there. Documents and Pictures are still ok.

Is this Windows 8? Did you just perform a cleanup?

In any case, if you don't see restore points, then you can't restore, plain and simple.

Are you experiencing any issues?
 
Clean Up

Yes this is Windows 8, Im sure I just did a clean up (refresh) to try and get rid of adverts. It stated before I clicked go that it would not lose my documents, files and programs.

The issue is various items have gone missing ie Firefox browser etc.

Where could I find a System restore point ?

To restore your PC to an earlier point in time

Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.)

Enter Control Panel in the search box, and tap or click Control Panel.

Enter Recovery in the Control Panel search box, and then tap or click Recovery.

Tap or click Open System Restore, and then follow the instructions.

I have done System restore without success, problem is how can I create a system restore point say to this time yesterday, the only ones I can find are after I did the refresh ?
