Laptop doesn't boot, screen goes white

Hi, I've been trying to fix a laptop... At the moment it's showing the BIOS Acer logo loading screen then it either goes to a completely white screen (If you try to go to enter the BIOS), or has said that there is a file missing from Windows. Usually though, it does nothing, no post on the screen, just the fan starts and lights go on. No beeps at all, ever. (sometimes it posts only if you leave no power source for a few minutes)

I have taken it apart down to the mobo and haven't seen anything wrong with it. I have no spare RAM to test but some is on the way, the problems sound like it could be the RAM to me.

There are 2 x 512 sticks installed, and testing either one in either of the slots doesn't help, nor does removing the HDD/WiFi card etc.

I have also reset the BIOS by removing the CMOS battery, which was soldered  waited, and quickly soldered it back.

Laptop:

- Acer Aspire 5100
- Turion 1.6GHZ X2
- 2 x 512MB DDR2
- 120GB U-ATA Seagate HDD
- ATi Xpress 1100 - Built in
- Windows XP/Unsure

Any ideas? I will await the RAM, but does it seem to be the issue? Or anything I can try?

Many thanks for your time!

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated :o

Ok, I've just tried the laptop with good ram and no hard drive and still same problem.

Does anyone know what I can try?

I will completely rebuild the laptop tomorrow, but I fear it needs a new motherboard.

Ah, I will have to find a voltmeter...

Also I remembered when I turned it on the first time, it made some strange discreet, distorted sounds, but at least it tried to boot to Windows (Missing file error).

Thanks for the comment

try to look for an updated bios and install it to your computer otherwise this might be a failed motherboard
