Laptop doesn't turn on

HP Pavilion dv2700 laptop appears to turn on (LEDs light up) but the screen is blank. The screen lights up (the backlight turns on), but the screen still shows nothing, there are no beeps or error codes. An external monitor doesn't show anything either.

The laptop had a similar problem a few months ago: it wasn't showing anything on the screen so I reflowed the GPU and it worked. Now, I reflowed the GPU and two other chips aswell (north birdge and south bridge chips, I think), cleaned out all the dust in the heatsink/ fan, applied new thermal compound, and reseated the RAM and that hasn't changed anything.

Thanks for any help!

One big issue with HP laptops, I know the dv6000 had it, is the GPU just burning out. I just assessed one dv2700 that was supposedly having the same issue as you and when I went to turn it on, it had a working display. I wonder if your GPU is burnt, or possibly the connection from the monitor to your motherboard was disconnected somehow?

Thanks for the replies. I took the laptop apart and put it back together 2 or 3 times, the connection should be fine. Maybe the GPU is burnt out (but wouldn't I get some kind of beep code then that tells me the hardware component is bad). I cannot get into BIOS, the backlight just comes on and I see a black screen, like mentioned in my original post.

Edit: Looking at replies from other places I've posted, it seems the GPU is gone or the mobo is gone, so it would probably be best to just buy a new laptop.

Well that was one thing I forgot to mention. When her GPU burnt out, it also fried the mobo. So I would bet this is your problem. Sorry for you loss :(
