So last night my I booted up my laptop from Hibernate and it started acting fairly crazy, and it's somewhat confusing to explain. I'm not sure whether it's a hardware or a software issue so that's why I need other opinions.
First of all, at my boot up screen it shows my Windows 7 and Ubuntu partitions. My keyboard no longer works to select one of these partitions, so that makes me believe that it is a hardware issue. Once Windows boots as a default, the log-in window appears. When I push "s" as the first letter of my password, the menu for restarting, shutting down, hibernating, etc. appears in the lower right hand corner. Pounding random keys on my keyboard seems to work for a few keys, but others it doesn't. My backspace key no longer works, but my Caps lock key still does. After a while of trying to get my keyboard to work, Windows simply shuts down. Sounds like a hardware issue, right?
Next, if I'm able to log in by some slim chance, my entire OS wigs out. For example, if I'm online and I want to click on a link, what happens is that it brings up the window as if I want to save the page to my HDD. It makes no sense. Another thing is that my folders are now changed to read-only, and the only way I can access my sub-folders is by right-clicking to open them. On MSN, if I want to say "Hey" to one of my friends, when I type the "h" key, it brings up the help menu. However, after pressing random keys on my keyboard enough times I'm able to type with no problems. As a result of all this I downloaded drivers for both my trackpad and keyboard. But of course, it wouldn't let me unzip them in Winrar. Finally, though, I extracted the executable to a folder. After going to the folder, the .exe won't run. All it does is bring up the Properties. System restore did not work, AVG didn't find anything. Nothing. This part of it most definitely seems like a virus to me, but my understanding is that viruses are consistent and not bi-polar. The laptop works on rare occasion now but it's getting worse. Sometimes I'm able to do what I want to do, other times I'm not. My immediate reaction was that it was a hardware issue, but given the other things that are occuring, I'm not so sure. Please keep in mind that I keep very good care of my laptop, so I'm not sure why everything stopped working.
Any ideas or feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
