Laptop external display...need help

Ok so here's the deal....I've got an HP Pavilion DV6000 Laptop. Well, as lovely as children are...they stepped on my laptop cracking my display so now the screen is black. Luckily (I think) there is an external projector vga port. So I plug a VGA monitor into it...turn the computer on...so far so good. Well the computer boots and the monitor goes away for log in. How do I set my external VGA projector as my main display so I can use my computer, without being able to see the laptop display. Like are there any hot keys I can press to be able to identify monitors...or set it up. Please help....
 
I don't know the key combination right off, but there should be some FN-F key combo to change the display. You could always try some. Just go down the row, releasing the pressing the FN key each time. Or just fine a manual, it's probably in there somewhere :P
