Laptop Fingerprint Security!!??

Is there such a thing for laptops? If so, which one? This would be a great idea since laptops can be easily stolen and the data looked at.

It's best to just not keep the data you're afraid of loosing on the laptop. That way, there's no way they could get access to it if it's not there, and also you wouldn't loose it, should the laptop get lost or stolen...

Um...don't you think it'd be a little more advanced then that...like maybe the laptop wouldn't work unless it was plugged in and successfully read your finger print :P

The circled object is a fingerprint reader, notice it is built into the case. That laptop is a Toshiba Tecra A8-EZ8311.

yeah thats what i meant. the laptop would not function without the fingerprint reader, because you need to log in.

I understand now, can one of you guys show me a good one please? Thanks.

Edit: For a USB one

Sony Vaio

the sony vaio sz models have the same finger print reader installed in them as the toshiba shown above....except sony has it in middle of the touch pad. You can research the sz at sonystyle.com or any electonics store...best buy, circuit city, etc.

the sz has a 13.3" screen, core due (1.83GHz), 100Gb HD and 1 GB Ram and also a very nice graphics card.....the only downside is its price, which is close to $2000 although you could find it cheaper at maybe about $1800 or so.

good luck

umm... i wouldn't get one... i know they sound cool and all but my buddy has one, and it worked fine until he got a paper cut on, ironically enough, the finger he used to secure his laptop... the laptop couldn't read his fingerprint and he had to send it in to get it reformatted... it wouldn't even fully power up until his fingerprint was confirmed...

in my opinion having a alphanumerical password is just as good as a fingerprint...

BIOS passwords are really helpful. Same functionality, but without the risk stated above.

Fingerprint scanners are cooler though, I have to admit:)

I've use this one for over a year. You scan more than one finger to access you PC. Plus, if the finger print reader doesn't work, you still have the password option. Great tool for accessing password enabled webpages:

BTW - fingerprint readers are not the most secure method to prevent access. There are many ways to fool these things. Nothing beats full disc encryption to protect your data on a laptop.

Thanks for the help guys. One question, what if you lose it or it is stolen, can you never use your computer again or what? Another thing what's some good software or something that keeps passwords?

Once again, thanks!

Well if it is lost or stolen then you wouldn't have the laptop, so no you can't use your computer again. Unless you get it back again. I am sure there are ways to get around it just in case.

Here in AUS Fujitsu make tablet laptop.

At my School the teachers have them and part of it have a fingerprint in the screen for security.

I'll post some links soon on it.

But the laptops are about $2,500!

But they are very good.
