Laptop for College

I disagree with both of you! You can't just decide which will be better without knowing the usage. If he wants to game, the Gateway would be MUCH better due to the 8800 series graphics card. Also the Gateway has a user upgradeable CPU, so the one weakness is easily remedied. He could easily sell the cpu in it to cover much of the cost of a 2.4 or 2.5 processor. There is also the fact that the Gateway comes with a 64-bit OS meaning he can use the full four gigs of RAM (or more with readyboost).

However if he doesn't plan to play games then I would just go with the Asus.

That is crap! - The asus is the best out of the 2!

Lol you are SO wrong it is not even funny. The video card in the Asus is DDR2, it will not run nearly as well as the 8800. That Gateway IS the best gaming laptop there is for the price. If he's willing to sell the CPU in it and buy a T9300, it will BLOW THAT ASUS OUT OF THE WATER. He'll get the full 4 gigs of RAM as well plus it will be dual-channeled and if he chooses he can use ready boost. Please research before you post bogus information.

EDIT: Oh and I forgot to mention, I believe the gateway has 2 hard drive slots should he want an extra one.

I didn't mean for this to turn into a huge argument. lol. But I appreaciate all your guys help. Still haven't made my decision. Thanks

From the over wrap up on the first page, the Asus is the way to go.

He's 14, and before yesterday he'd never heard of readyboost. Now your both wrong and if you disagree please post some support rather than the I'm right you're wrong method.

i have heard of it and i think it is just crap, and i probably know more about computers than you did at 14 and currently do! and at least i am more active then you have been or will be!

Look back-up what you've said or get lost. I want to know why you think this Asus is so much better. You may know more than I did at 14 but you're quickly proving you don't know more than I do now both about computers and how to back up your claims.

Now please back-up what you have to say rather than telling me I'm wrong, which I'm perfectly willing to admit if you would just give me some god damn proof.

Edit: what does how active I am have to do with ANYTHING. Let's stay on topic.

the OP wanted to know what was better out of the 2 that he liked and we gave him the our opnions

THEN BACK THEM UP. Sorry to seem annoyed but I am. Back up your claim otherwise it's useless. The Gateway is better overall. It will take longer to become obsolete because it is much more customizable. The graphics card is better. The OS is 64 bit. Eventually that WILL be the way to go. Not to mention he can even use more than 4 gigs of RAM if he bought it. Oh and need I mention the CPU is USER changeable.

Now could you please tell why you like the Asus so much more.
