Hey there,
i would like to ask you what are the specifications of a laptop for a graphic designer? and how much does he cost usually?

Thank You,

Respect

usually a laptop with 512mb of memory, a decent... 60-100gb hard drive, and a more powerful cpu chip like maybe an nvidia.

pentium M can work also. but maybe not as good if u plan to do it on a daily basis... and then you need the actual programs itself like Adobe Photoshop.

I would highly recommend a Tablet Laptop if you can.

prices really just depends on you. and all the other things really just depends on your liking.

its whatever how much you are willing to pay for a laptop. (i.e. the brand, the materials, weight, size, etc.)

all those other things will factor into what you want as your ideal laptop. and the above... like i said

atleast 512mb
60-100gb hdd
nvidia/ati video driver (this is what i meant in my first post)
you can get a Pentium M. if not, a P4 or AMD will do just fine. they will probably give u a little bit more power.

as far as everything else like cd/dvd, size, weight, etc... those are just factors you should decide on your own. for imaging, i might say atleast a 17"

and i highly recommend a tablet laptop. it makes graphic designing just much simpler. I am a graphic designer minor myself.

The screen on the Acer tablet is pretty good for a tablet. One of the better screens in my opinion. As for the graphics designer, what media are they focusing in? I've been in graphics almost all my life so I was just wondering. If they're thinking of doing a lot of layouts for say... print or signage, then I'd go for something with an amazing screen. Also, RAM should be your friend and one should have a lot of friends. It'll make you happier. :D
Photoshop uses a lot of RAM, many believed it was a graphics card, but it's not. If you're working with CAD, graphic card would be nice, but RAM is where the heart is again. Some vector only CAD programs will have problems with newer video cards and prefer basic video. As for me, I'm using the Asus Z70Va, probably the best matte screen I've seen on a laptop. The most even flow of color and brightness & of course, extremely sharp.

Other honorable mentions... Toshiba Qosmio screens are spectacular for media viewing (dont know how accurate their color is, but it's amazing)and the Asus V6Va, with an IPS screen provides the best viewing angles ever on a laptop (gets my vote for best screen).

Your a graphics man then I would look for a gaming pc, even if you don't play games you can insure that you get the latest graphics technology and fast processors and memory. ABS makes a very nice affordable gaming rig www.abs.com all of the parts they use in their machines are the highest quality and essentially you are building your own computer, but with someone elses hands. Much better in the sense that you get a warranty :) I wouldn't get anything less than 512MB ram and you should look at 2GHz processors and higher. Also a quality GPU is a must for any graphics programs.

I know it's sacrilege here at cf.com, but I would recommend getting a Mac laptop. They're a lot more stable and are better designed for graphical/multi-media type of stuff as well... Although they do tend to be a little more expensive, look for one around $1300 - $2000.
