Laptop for network security

How fast of a laptop do I really need for network security tools? I will be going back to school in May for Network Security Technician and want to get a laptop to run everything I will need for classes on.
 
u dont need that fast of a laptop. something decent. all you really need are the utilities that will secure the network. all of which u can buy or obtain free ones.

if u will be running lots of programs from the class, try getting a good hdd. good memory. possibly 512 or 1gb if u prefer. cpu, up to u if u know your computer parts, i dont know much about cpu so i can't comment. however, i'd prefer like a pentium M for the mobility and longer battery usage.
 
Try to find a laptop that has supported *nix hardware, wireless and ethernet adaptors in particular. If you're actually taking a decent "security" tech course, you will run into a need for these under a *nix environment at some point.

Other than that, look for something with long battery life and perhaps some of your own physical security would be nice. I'd suggest a lappy with a bios password, boot password and HDD password...don't want your friends getting carried away with some of the things you'll be learning :)
