Hello-

I'm new to the forums, so i would first like to say Hello to everyone.

Unfortunately, I'm having a problem that stumping me. I have an Enpower ENP24204 Laptop. Windows XP home was running just fine. I recently re-formatted the drive so I could partition it. It is a 37 GB hard drive, and i made one NTFS partition 21 GB. Now I am trying to re-install Windows XP Home, and after it gets through the format and comes to the blue install screen, it freezes with 35 minutes estimated to complete the installation. I have Re-booted, and it still stops at that point. I even tried switching XP discs, but nothing.

Does Anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem??

Thanks in Advance

P.S. I wasnt sure whether this was a laptop post or an OS post, so i put it here.

Ok this may be stupid but mine used to freeze at 7 minutes. All i had to do was eject the cd and it will go but that might not be it in ur case but try that.

I did-- I tried that, i tried taking out RAM, i tried Disabling my wireless, the touchpad, I even tried installing XP Pro, It still sticks at 35 minutes though.

Thanks for the reply--

Discs sometimes that look to be in very good or perfect condition aren't. So in fact, you may have a bad disc even if it isn't visible.

The discs are all from Microsoft. At this point I am on My third Disc. Two are original, and one is a recovery disc. Of the Two original, one is XP Pro.All of them stop at the 35 minute mark.

Thanks for the replies

Is it a SP2 disc? some internal hardware may need the WinXP disc with SP2 on it. Usually it'll still install as a default driver, but there are times that it will needed. (not too familiar with Enpower) Also, make sure there are nothing plugged in, such as USB ports and PC Cards. Other than that, it should install with no problems.

The system is a few years old, before sp2. So none of the discs i have are SP2. Though i figured that the laptop would not need SP2 because it didnt have it when we got it.

I really have no idea what the problem is, all the devices are uninstalled.

Thanks for all your help

Hi All--

The word just came in from the guys at PC Club, the IDE controller on that laptop was having a problem, and was causing the installation to freeze. They need to replace the mobo. Thankfully its under warranty.

Thank you all for the help
