laptop function key errors

hello all,

my keyboard for my laptop is messed up. the function key function is reversed. Now that everything i type is coming out as i have used the function key, and i have to type this holding the function key to have the normal letters displayed. is this a hardware problem? i had the same problem before but it usually go away after i restart the computer or restore it. i tried both ways just right now and it didnt fix the problem. is there any hope left? please help! thanks!

Left side of the board,,click on the big thing that looks like a lock.Then type.Should go back to lower case letters.

ohh no no, its not CAPLOCK. its the function key that is messed up. So for example if I want to type "%" i would hold the function key and press "5" in order to get the symbol "%". however, for some reasons, my function key function is reversed. That means in order to type a "5" I have to hold down the function key and press "5". If I don't hold down the function key, then pressing "5" alone would instead display the "%" character.
