Laptop Graphics

I don't own a laptop because I have been looking for a laptop that's cheap that has a dedicated graphics card. Unfortunately, this is a little unrealistic. So, I'm back to the drawing board, but then I thought, "Can I put a video card into it?" I know that you can still use a PCI video card in a desktop that has onboard, and just disable the onboard (or keep it if you want duals).
What is everyone's thoughts? Is it possible to put, say a mobile GeForce or Radeon, into a laptop with integrated video?

PS: Sorry if this has been posted before...

i think its possible..just you have to risk opening up the laptop then you have to make sure the card can fit...

No, it's not possible at all unless you get some majorly high end laptop. Please, if you're goign to ask such a question, do a search as everyone asks this!

Now people say this will change when PCIe becomes more mainstream...I doubt it, but only time will tell

get something with a radeon xpress 200 mobo chipset thing with onboard xpress 200 graphics. it is really nice.

hope it better than the radeon igp 320m chipset.:(

the xpress 200m is a breakthrough for radeon. It kicks arse. the onboard has 128MB dedicated and you can set it to share another 128 for total 256mb video memory.

Battery life is a huge problem. Know why high-end graphics in a desktop are requiring such large PSU's, and lots of quality, because they SUCK POWER like no other. a dedicated gfx card in a laptop is doable, but your going to have a battery time of maybe 1-1.5hrs max with the batteries we use today.

HA! my I9300 with a 6800 in it gets 4 hours battery life. this is of course with just minimal use, like web browsing or something like that.

thats because you arent utilizing your VC

Your I9300 is also massive, heavy, and not really what i would consider an easily transportable laptop. It weight nearly 8lbs, more if you've got accessories and stuff. A lightweight portable laptop couldn't possibly run a highpowered GPU like what you have, and that's where alll the interest is for most consumers, small and lightweight. Not dissing it or anything, it's better than the laptop I'm on...
