Hi Gang,

Newbie here, thanks in advance for the help.

Toshiba Laptop running Windows 7 seems to have contracted a virus. Windows screen shows booting and then restarts over and over. So, I pulled the hard drive and purchased a USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE cables. I plugged the drive into the cables and connected it to my desktop running Vista, it found the drive in "My Computer" but wanted to format the drive. I had the same results when connecting to my spare laptop running Windows 7.

I want to recover some files before erasing everything. Is there someway to access the drive without formatting?

Did you try booting into safe mode when you had the drive in the laptop? Just hit F8 while it starts to boot. IIRC, you can usually remove ultra-destructive viruses in safe mode.

Try this..... has worked for me in the pass but sometimes it won't

1. Plug Hard Drive into your computer
2. Go To My Computer
3. Right click on the Drive
4. Click Properties
5. Go To Tools
6. Run an Error Check.

Another try if it does not work is to plug it another computer with windows 7 as this might allow you to access files on the hard drive.

Let us know the result.
