Laptop HD to Desktop HD?

I own a Dell XPS M140 laptop, and until recently it has been my main machine.
I just bought a new desktop, this one, and I honestly have no idea how to get all of my stuff from the laptop to the desktop. The situation is further complicated by the fact that the new machine is x64, even though I don't really know what that means. Could someone do a complete walkthrough for me? I obviously am not to good at these things, and help would be much appreciated. Kthanks---Torrey

Geeze dude... Did you pay $1300 for that? You really should ask around a bit. I would of sold you my system for that price, and it's a much better gammer... I mean it's not a horrible system, but you could buy the parts and make a much better system for less :-/ As for running XP X64, bad choice. It's a pretty bad OS with many incompatabilities due to next to no programs being made to support 64bit.

Now, as for getting the info off your old HD, they have very basic converters for that.

Something like that would work, or there are even USB versions(a bit more, of course) Or, assuming your laptop still works, you could just network the machines and pull the files that way.
