Bought it from eBay. Probably got less than 10 hours use since I got it from eBay... although it has been sitting for like 5-8 months...

Plugged it up (IBM, 9mm HDD) and it started knocking and clicking... (unusual)...

It loads VERY slowly... but it does load... and knocks and clicks like hell...

So it this one dying? Or is there a way to "save" it?

probily not but idk if it is dying i would try hitting it, if it compleatly breaks it well it was going to anyway else it may fix it (idk i find i have luck with hiting things if it does not work.)

on a side note i need to install google toolbar with spell check ;)

i believe ibm drives use the same mechanics as the current hitachi drives. if so then compare the noises to that of the downloadable wav files of drive failures at hitachi

what's the rotational speed?

imo sounds like it's dying

Eh... probably not even 5200RPM. I'm guessing 4200RPM...

Aww man :( It's just WEIRD. It freezes when it checks for "disk consistiency" ... Then after a few seconds, completes it and passes with flying colors!

This HDD must really like dying... I placed a huge car speaker (magnet side directly contacts the top) and no informationw as lost :D (I like experimenting).

GENUIS! No, seriously! I dropped it on my bed like 50 times, then threw it at the bed 2-3 times... pluggd it in... NO TAPPING/KNOCKING/CLICKING/TICKING!

No, I sware I mean it! It froze a bit during the disk check... but now it's roaring through fine! I can't even hear anything! It's so quiet :D

THANK YOU BRIAN! Many <3's :P

Fixed it now :) No stops, stutters, noise, or random freezes. I ran a cleaning and scanning software on it. Now it runs top notch and perfect. Thanks guys!

WOW I WAS RIGHT!!!

hahahhaha lol see everything works if you force it to :P

plus its a great stress reliever

now i got to try that on a dead hd at home :D

I'll PM you the software (:P) It's not illegal, it's BRILLIANT, and AWESOME. I'm doing my HDD's by the 3's now. It's kinda expensive ($89)...

Anyways... the HDD loaded up Windows 2000 Sp3 with no bugs whatsoever. Ran like a champ... even installed a few thing on it. Works GREAT!
