Laptop HDD Interface?

Hello everyone.

I'm new to this forum, so thank you in advance for any information that will be provided :)

Laptop: HP Pavilion dv9000
Replacement HDD: Samsung model ST750LM022

I've recently attempted to replace my laptop's HDD with a larger HDD. I have an HP Pavilion dv9000. The original HDD has an available 140GB of free data. As I've filled this with my collection of music, I am attempting to replace the HDD. After attempting to install the Samsung HDD into the laptop, I receive an initial BIOS startup screen followed by the attempt at Windows logo (OS load screen). Within seconds of the "Loading Microsoft" screen, I am met with a flash of blue screen followed by an immediate reboot. I am not able to see the variables of the blue screen errors, so I apologize in advance. Before utilizing this forum, I have attempted troubleshooting on my own. The laptop has a second expansion for a secondary HDD. I attempted to install the replacement HDD in the expansion, only to be met with an eternal blank screen after the BIOS load screen appears on startup. I thought that maybe I received a faulty Samsung HDD, but after installing the Samsung into another (newer) laptop of mine, it works fine. The "newer" laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad Z570. So that ruled out the faulty hardware consideration. My next step was to attempt the installation of an older HDD. Unfortunately, it is only an 80GB HDD, and thus lacked the resources to be used as a replacement. The older HDD is a Toshiba MK1234GSX. When placed in the primary HDD compartment, the Toshiba proved inept. However, upon installation of the Toshiba into the secondary HDD slot while using the original HP Pavillion HDD (stock) in primary, the computer was able to recognize the Toshiba HDD as a secondary. Now that I've gone through this entire explanation, I've arrived at my questions.
Q1: Is there a particular interface requirement that I need to be concerned with when attempting to replace a laptop HDD?
Q2: Suppose I decided to simply deal with the laptop only being able to use the Toshiba in secondary. How would I allow iTunes to access half of my library in the C: drive and still access the other half of my library on the Toshiba (F:) drive?

Thank you very much for all of your assistance. I really appreciate it and please inform me if there is a need for additional information :)

*Windows has been installed on each of the HDD I have mentioned above. The Toshiba was only reformatted and wiped after it was installed as a secondary*

Did you install Windows onto that hard drive from another computer? If so it's not going to work because they are two different computers. You can't move a hard drive with Windows installed from one computer to another and expect it to work. You need to either install Windows from scratch or clone your old hard drive over to the new one.
