I am attempting to recover files from my broken laptop.
I have removed the hdd, bought a conversion cable so that I easily plug it in.
I plug in the lead and i hear a few beeps from the hdd
but it does not show up on the computer.
What am I doing wrong???
Anyone help?:)

We would need more info. What "removable disc facility" are you using? What is the make/model of the hdd? Are you sure the problem with your broken laptop wasn't the hdd itself?

The facility I am using is the usb connection "removable disk H". The original fault with the laptop was that it was dropped and no power was there . I will post the model and make when I reach home.
Thanks
Ange.

It is a western digital ... WD600
An additional piece of info is..... I pluggedf my camera into the usb port but could only scan the memory card for pics while outside the camera.
HELP!!

When it is plugged into the computer do your feel the hard drive spinning?

If the the drive is spinning but you are not seeing the partitions you can run testdisk and attempt to repair the partition table.

Download and unzip file.
goto testdisk-6.13>testdisk_win.exe

follow the instructions to do a basic scan and repair of the partition table.
Restart your computer and hope it shows up in either explorer or disk management
