hey, i have asked questions similar to this a few times before, but i really need to do something about my laptop heat, as it is getting towards summer its going to be hotter and sitting in front of a really hot laptop isnt going to be very comfortable.

in my laptop i have 2HDDs whcih are both located in front of the keyboard, all that seperates them from the outer layer of the laptop is about 3-4mm of plasic and metal, this makes the surface of my laptop quite hot and sometimes makes it uncomfortable to use. is there anything i can do to stop the heat coming through?? (i.e. adding another layer of someting etc..) its very doubtful that i can do anything, but its worth asking the question.

oh, and do those "stand" things actually help?? i have considered getting one but im not sure... what is the point of the fans if they are only blowing air into a layer of plastic??

Theres not really much you can do tbh like you originally thought, One thing would be, take the old Internal Drives out n sell them, make a bit of money and buy a External USB drive, Thats only If you don't mind having a block connected to your laptop all the time.
 
i did think about that, but i will still ahve to have 1HDD in my laptop.... but i think it would make a difference, but im not sure how much, and if it is worth it.
 
Could try Selling your drives and buying, one slower Internal drive, would decreas performance, but also heat by a bit:)
 
I bought my friend one of those laptop coolers which plug into one of your USB ports and most of the time they have usb ports on the laptop cooler so you can still plug in other USB devices. The laptop cooler did help my friend with his over heating issues and prevented the computer from overheating. here are some possible laptops coolers. Biggest thing is to make sure that the size of the laptop cooler is about the same size as your laptop
 
get a cooler! and be glad you dont have an iBook, they are the hottest notebooks around. THere are a lot of coolers on newegg, every size you could possibly need. Also, if you dont want to mess with your laptop, then use an external monitor and another keyboard, and use it like a desktop, and place it away from you.
 
thanks for the help, yer ill prob get a cooler. i need to find a 17" one though...big laptop =D.

is there anything i can do about the heat coming through the top layer of the laptop? a cooler will prob help but not much around there....
 
bear in mind that most notebooks are designed and made in south east asia so generally speaking they only over heat when there's something wrong with them or if the heat sinks are clogged with crap
