Laptop Help urgently needed

Hi all, hope someone has the answer to this.

I have a Compaq Presario 2100 laptop (old I know) and yesterday it decided to turn off and now wont boot back up.

i clicked on an email (not sure if this is related), and a blue dos-style screen appeared, then disappeared before i could get chance to read it, then the laptop restarted itself. It will get to the XP logo with the blue progression bar underneath it, then the blue screen flashes up again and then the laptop restarts itself again.

does anyone know how i can resolve this without loosing any of my files?

ah, i used to have one of those. i really dont know what is causing it, but i have a feeling its going through its death rows :( its time to upgrade anyhow. you could try to save your data by buying an external IDE hard drive enclosure. this way, you can transfer data the data to another computer. of course, you could also take it to the local computer repair shop.
