Hello,

I have a Alpha R Pro laptop from novatech, i fixed the origional problem which was the harddrive was failing constantly, the screen was broken and the graphics card was broken.

I braught a new harddrive and replaced the old one, i got a new graphics card for NovaTech and fitted it my self and braught a used screen off ebay and fitted that my self.

It worked started up correctly and so on. Then i noticed i forgot to put in two screws, on the back of the laptop where the VGA socket and that normaly is, so i put these screws in and now the laptop will start up but the screen will display only they light lines going down the screen.

I have opened up the laptop and took a look and the screws i forgot to origonaly put back in are only there to hold some bits of the plastic case together nothing else.

I have checked the screen ribbon cable and it is plugged into the screen and graphics card correctly, i have also reinstalled the old graphics card, but instead of getting the lines i get a white screen, but this is probs becuase of that graphcis card already be broken.

Is it possible the monitor ribbon cable is broken and needs replacing?

Thank you,
Shane Rutter

I'm not sure what to tell you other than to check and make sure that your cables/ribbons are all properly connected- you could hook up to a VGA monitor to be sure that the video looks good there so that we know the graphics card is still good.

You're just going to have to figure out what you may have pulled loose when you opened it back up to insert the missing screws (they're not touching any connections right?) Not much more than that anyone can tell you over a forum - kind of have to be there, you know?

The missing screws which i screwed back in did not require me to open the laptop again, the laptop was fully assembled when i screwd in these screws. I have checked and all these screws seem to do is keep the plastic sorounding inplace.

have you tried hooking up an external monitor so we can tell whether it's an issue with the graphics card or with the laptop monitor?

I think i have determined the problem to be the screen ribbon cable, i have noticed if i move it around it somestimes starts to work, for about 2 seconds and then no more. Its hard to figure out if its the actual cable or the connectors on the graphics card or the monitor.

I have connected it to a VGA monitor and the graphics card is running fine.

Yeah I'd say that this is going to be hard to fix, have you got warranty?
