I've recently droppped my laptop and it landed on the keyboard denting it slightly, after that it stopped working. I've taken it apart and there's no internal damage. When it boots up it gets to the 'HP' screen and freezes.
This implies either the processor isn't working or the BIOS isn't loading the OS properly. Any idea's what might be going wrong?

The motherboard is right under the keyboard (i think), it might have damaged your keyboard.. look for: broken parts, smushed/cracked chips, overheating.

your right the motherbaord is below the keyboard but the dent is above the RAM, is it possible that the RAM will have stopped working and thus the Os won't be loading into it?

If the RAM was bad you wouldnt be seeing that first HP screen nayways... but if its partially damaged yes that could be the ram. replace the ram with like a 16MB or 32MB stick first, just to make sure that you dont go buy a 1gig stick then find out it aint the ram problem.

try unplugging the keyboard and then turning it on.... one of the keys might be stuck

i had a dell once, and it started having the same problems, after an hour of work, i found out that the keyboard had one of the keys stuck down and the computer would freeze up during booting

i've unplugged the keyboard and it still doesn't work, and i've unplugged half of the RAM (there's on stick on top of the motherboard and one stick directly below that underneath the motherboard) and it still doesn't work, should i just scavange the bits that still work or is it worth repairing?

If it boots partially, then freezes try holding down F11 and doing a system recovery. If that doesn't work you're probably done for. If it was running when you dropped it chances are the HDD is damaged.
