So recently I have had a laptop that the screen stopped working on. I thought maybe the monitor had come unplugged from the board but it hadn't. I hooked it up to an external monitor via VGA and still nothing. The laptop acts like its turning on however, i.e. the fan spins up, the lights come on (excluding the backlight for the monitor), and the heatsinks get warm.
My next thought was either the RAM or the hard drive had failed. I took out the RAM inspected it and replaced it with some spare RAM I had, still nothing. My next thought was to swap the hard drive from my working laptop. Now this is where I messed up. After swapping the hard drives and trying to start each computer they both have the same problem.
Even after swapping hard drives back, both laptops have the same problem. My only thought is that the SATA port on the original computer or that hard drive has a short or something that has caused the second laptop or hard drive to fail.
I really need yall's help on this one. I go back to school in a week and two of my classes are computer based. So any advice, opinions or any kind of help what so ever would be very appreciated.
The original laptop is a Lenovo ideapad z565 and the second laptop is an Asus Republic of Gamers G60V.
