laptop keeps turning its self off?

first of all hello every one im new here, signed up a few months ago but havn't been able to get a internet connection, anyway thats now sorted but i have a problem
basically if i leave my laptop on and it goes to screen saver or the battery dies etc the screen goes off, all the ohter lights are ons till but i can't wake the computer back up? i either have to wait till the battery has died or just hold the power button till it turns off that way and restart it, this is a real pain in the arse so any help is well apricated

Sounds like you have hibernation/standby issue and usually reinstalling windows will fix this. What operating system are you running?

im running vista, it was fine and has just randomly started to do it

Try doing a system restore back to when it was working fine.
