Laptop Lan card too big???

Hello I recently bought a 3Com Megahertz Lan card. It's 10/100 lan card bus with XJACK(c) connector.

It doesnt seem to be fitting in my thinkpad 380D. It is identically simmilar to my megahertz dialup card but doesnt go in all the way.

Anyone with the same problem???

it should go in all the way. try pushing harder and it should go in it may be sticking a little bit. but all cards should be comaptible in PCMIA slots.
 
Agreed... It should work without a problem. Some cards can be a bit hard to get into my avertec sometimes, even this dummy card I keep in there to keep dust out!

Not all cards are 100% identical, so some might be larger/smaller in certain areas. I guess you could always grind part of the card down ;)
 
laptop lan card problem with size

Okay I just noticed that his xjack lan card has these little bumps near the end. Is this different than the regular old ones that are just flat.

this is a picture (not mine) that shows the little circles/bumps on the gold. I think this might be causing the problem

The laptop is a IBM thinkpad 380D w. Windows 98 and I'm lookign for a lan card for it. It can either be a xjack or a dongle one, but i want both a dongle and card. Please help??

It could be the wrong socket, since there are two main types of PCMCIA cards, CardBus I and CardBus II.
 
I think they all have that hump. It's to let people know which way it goes in (which way is up). As for your system, it should be able to take it. The specs on your systems says that it'll take Type I, II, & III cards.
