Laptop LCD Resolution help

Hi. I'm new here so not sure if this is the right topic to go to but I have a Thinkpad T40 with SGA+ 1400x1050 resolution. At max resolution, it is too small for me to view so I'd like it at 1024x768. But at that smaller resolution, it just seems the screen is brighter and not as clear than it should be. Is this something I just have to live with or could I do something about it? I was also wondering if it would be possible to be at 1400x1050 but still view everything at 1024x768 size. Regardless, thanks in advance.

I'm not totally sure about the brightness, but the clarity issue is just a typical problem with LCDs. When running a lower resolution, the pixels have to run in sets of 4, or whatever to match the size. This provides a lower quality image. In other words, there's really nothing you can do about the quality...

u can right click the screen
properties
advanced
general tab
and increase dpi from 96 to 120 I think.
text will be bigger. but for some reason I forgot which
people don't suggest doing that.
