laptop microphone not function

When chat with others, my laptop microphone cannot recording my voice. HELP

Go into control panel , sound and audio devices , voice , and make sure the volume is turned up.
Also check that the mic isent full of dust

Hi, still cannot work.I think my laptop INSPIRON 510m is an old model.
