Laptop mishap

Hi,

My daughter spilled a cup of cocoa on the laptop... I quickly took it apart, cleaned just about anything that was in there with q-tips (I am not that familiar in terms of hardware...) with and left it to dry completely.
My question is how long should I wait until trying to put everything back together and see if I still have a laptop? :((

I don't know that there is any set time to try, but I'd certainly make sure its dried out first.

I know we had a similar incident with soda, and that laptop was toast... but my friend also had a spill too, albeit with milk, and after he cleaned it, his was completely fine.

All the best, it happens and its probably a 50/50 shot right now.

If you want to be on the safe side, wait longer rather than shorter. I'd say as long as a week. If you apply power before things dry, there's a good chance of a short frying things.

Even when dry, I'm not sure how good of a conductor cocoa residue is so it's still possible that things could short out.

Put it in a big sealed bag with rice. Leave it 2 days. Charge and use.

I dropped my iPhone in a fish tank. Did this and it works fine.
