I have a Sony PCG-F430 with a Pentium lll processor. Where can I get a motherboard with a larger processor that will fit in my case.

You are going to find yourself stuck. You may find a replacement board(same make and model originally used) on EBay if not a similar model laptop used seeing a faster cpu there or at amazon.com.

As a rule however a newer board seeing a faster cpu will be for a newer line of laptops. Due to design changes in models and how things are connected you are better off looking for a replacement board through some place that services laptops or looking at a new model.

The way laptops are prepackaged to fit a specific design simply buying a new unit would save on paying out for another old board and then paying a shop for seeing it go in with a service warranty of some type. The prices for new ones has come down considerably in the last few years.

you cant upgrade the motherboard in a laptop like that. even a replacement for the motherboard you already have will cost more than a new laptop...

Certain boards are generally bulk ordered for a specific model. That's the real problem. Once a new socket type comes out if not simply another model board supporting faster memory as well as a faster cpu the next generation of laptops seen is all too common.

Shopping for a Socket 423 or 478 board at this time and then paying out to have it installed would be up there pricewise a little too much just to see a faster cpu. That's the unfortunate reality. Some new model portables are now seen as low as $400- with just a blink of an eye from previously seeing them typically priced from $899-$1,400.

who ever made the case say like dell go to the dell website and type the case serial number in and it will tell you the measurements of the case and what is compatible with it

Laptop companies do this for a reason, they make them not upgradeable so people then go about buy another laptop, so they get money out of it :P

What do you think keeps the economy going? Plus their profits of course. Anything prebuilt is going to be limited especially portable units along with desktops. You pay for the convenience of a portable not for flexibility in upgrading. It's been that way since the first notebooks were introduced.
