Laptop not connecting to wireless network.

Recently i bought a laptop, wiped it clean (to get vista off of there) and installed a very old (SP1) version of xp onto it. Now, i have installed the drivers and updates from microsoft and acer but my laptop wont connect to any wireless router. I noticed when i open network connections, it shows only one icon, which is for the cable, but m$ is telling me there should be a wireless one 2. is there a driver or update for the ethernet card or windows that will solve this?
 
whew, i fixed it. i checked the device manager and apparently the wireless network adapter had a code 10 error and wouldnt start, one driver download later and it all works :D
