Laptop only works in safe mode

My computer only works in safe mode:

I have a dell xps 1330 laptop running windows vista. My computer works fine in normal mode for about 5 minutes until it seems to hit this invisible barrier that makes it freeze. When I try to ctrl-alt-del it brings up my desktop background with an error message that says something about a safety error.
The way it freezes makes me think its a software error of some sort or a corrupted file.

Does anyone have any ideas?
Any help is appreciated.
 
I ran a quick scan that didn't pick anything up. I just started a full scan.

I'll see what Kaspersky picks up.

also, do you have any restore points saved? maybe roll back to a previous. see if it still happens. any chance you have used AVG in the past or now? there is an issue with that at times that can cause this. cheers.
