Laptop overheated and is now not working

Recently I broke the screen of my laptop, so decided to replace it by instead attaching an old monitor i found lying around the house. It worked fine, but my broken screen kept getting in the way so i decided to remove it, which also went fine, until i was unattaching the hinges and the motherboard started smoking.

I realised that the computer had been on all the time i had been doing this, and so I turned it off. I finished removing the hinges, put the keyboard back on, attached it to my monitor and nothing. The monitor wasnt picking up a signal. I knew this had something to do with the overheating because when i originally removed the screen (not the casing surrounding it ) it worked fine. I looked inside whilst it was "on" and the fan wasnt moving at all. I dont know why all of a sudden it had stopped, as nothing is blocking it and its not dirty.

Does Anyone know if letting it cool down will fix the problem ? (as its still quite hot) as i dont want to buy a replacement one before finding out my old one works.

You probably won't get video signal to the other output without the orginal screen being attached to the cable. If motherboard started smoking, you burnt something up. Never never work on a laptop while it's on and battery still attached.

Hello,

I wouldn't really call that 'overheated' as opposed to 'bridge connections and damaged hardware'. As the 'magic smoke' has escaped your PC it's likely dead jim. Cooling it down would have zero effect as parts of the system have already combusted.
