Laptop overheating problem

Hello all,

I currently have a hp pavilion dv6915nr with a Nvdia chipset. I have an overheating problem with this laptop. At the upper right hand of the laptop..there is a vent there that pushes out hot air. In that same area, the battery usually gets hot as well. What can I do to reduce the temperature...it's usually range in the temperature of mid 50 degrees up to as high as the high 80 degrees? Is their a fan that sits on top of the cpu you like it does in a desktop computer? If so, could the cpu fan or system fan not be working and need to be replace. I had this laptop since Sept. 08 and I would hate to buy another laptop again. Plus my sound card works every now and then. I already did an originally factory reinstall and the problems still persist(overheating and sound card problems)

The CPU and GPU are cooled by the fan just behind the vent in the upper right hand corner. (its a copper heatsink that is cooled by the fan).
If it is overheating regularly, the first thing to check would if there is any built up dust in there. Just go ahead and clean it via a can of compressed air (like you clean a keyboard with). That should restore your airflow, and better cool it. After a couple of hours, repost the temps. If they are still high, we can help you track down any farther issues with the cooling system.
The audio issue may be connected to the overheating (laptops can do some strange things in high temps). IF it does not self correct then you may be looking at some driver issues or even connection/hardware problems. Since you have not said weather or not the mic and headphone ports work, Id check them to be sure. If they work, then your speakers are broke. If they do not you may still be looking at hardware failure, or it could just be a bad driver. Ill list all the current HP drivers for your audio below, and you can try the right one and see if it helps.
