Okay, so here are the specs on my gaming laptop:
Asus Republic of Gamers G60JX
Core i5-430M 2.27ghz
4GB DDR3-1066 RAM
GeForce GTS 360M - 1GB GDDR5
This laptop plays games flawlessly. I was getting 50-60fps on COD-MW2 on maxed-out settings, have been playing BF-BC2 with Full 16x AA and everything on high and getting about 40-50fps. What I mean, is that this little rig cooks!
But in the past few days, whenever I try to load Splinter Cell - Conviction, the computer freezes - COMPLETELY - within five seconds after I double-click the icon.
Now, when I say "completely" I mean the computer absolutely and totally stops functioning. CTRLALTDEL does nothing, there is instantly NO disk activity, and the only way to remedy the problem is a hard-reset.
The same issue happens with another game, DiRT2. These games both worked fine up until about a week ago. I've defragmented the HD, run several in-depth virus and malware scans, and have ensured that all of my drivers are up-to-date.
I don't think I've ever encountered this before. Any ideas?
