Laptop: primary harddisk drive 0 not found

Hey everybody,

I was hoping someone could help me out with an issue that my girlfriend just experienced on her laptop. It seems when she turns it on it makes an extremely loud noise, honestly, over the phone, it sounds like one of those tornado warning bells.

She gets an error:
primary harddisk drive 0 not found
no bootable devices
strike f1, f2 for setup utility

I am somewhat knowledgeable with computers, but I have no idea what this could be. The only noise issue I ever experienced with my desktop was that of which took place after all of my fans had died. This is all the information I have at this point with it, but I should be picking it up from her in a few days so I could take a closer look.

Anyone have any ideas? Sorry for not being able to supply more.
 
Hard drive died... They can make all kinds of racket when they do die, and it's most certainlly that if the computer no longer boots...
 
Could you possibly suggest a new harddrive for me, and provide a link? Size doesn't really matter, as well as speed. Whatever would work fine for simply writing papers and doing other school work activities.
