Laptop Problem and NEWB

I am having a problem with my HP Pavillion DV5000. It's about 4 years old and I use it about everyday...

It keeps restarting and will not fully boot. There is a blue screen that flashes and I took a picture of it. I am not too smart with computers but I think it could be the hard drive. There also is an error code of pxe-e61 on the black screen when booting.

The restore disk doesnt seem to load, and I even changed the boot order.

Thanks for any and all input. I use this computer for work and school so any response is much appreciated.

You have errors on your hard drive. What brand of hard drive is it? You would need to download the drive makers disk diagnostic utility burn it to a cd, boot to it and run it.

Thanks for the link, I will try this tomorrow after work and update after.

I just hope this will run because my restore CD didnt.

I did burn it to CD and loads, but I tried commands to get it to load the test and it doesnt.

How can I simply reformat or clear my hard drive and reinstall windows? I don't care if I lose all my data.

You have to fix the errors on your hard drive first or buy a new one. The errors might not even be fixable. Do you have a computer savvy friend that can look at it for you? or you can try using seagates seatools software and try doing the same thing.

Thanks for the prompt response.

Lol I am not computer savvy at all. Sigh, I never knew how difficult it was to do all this.

I found this link which I think describes what issues I'm having..

Not sure if that post helps at all, but I might buy a new hard drive if I cant figure this out.

While I'm at it I mind as well upgrade, I know I need an IDE 2.5" hard drive, I was looking at about 250GB.

Yeah it seems like that is what I will do. Luckily I was running out of GB storage anyway.

Thanks guys, I'll order the wd2500beve and install it. :D

Depends on your usage and how long you plan on keeping a 5 yo machine. If you are storing videos you'll need as big as your budget will allow, if you're surfing and running office software anything over 40 GB will do (with XP, 80 with Vista/Win7).

Yes thats true, didn't think about it like that.

I plan to keep it for many more years (assuming no other repairs).

And I'll use it for music as well as programs like Adobe Master Suite.
