Laptop Problem

i have been given a laptop by my aunt, its fairly old and i have begun upgrading it (Xp SP1 - 2, RAM etc...)

yesterday i downloaded a load of windows updates for it, installed them all, rebooted and now it just wont boot... the power comes on, but nothing comes on the screen.

does anyone know why this might be happening?

p.s. I did take the battery out because it had a life of about 30 secs and to make the laptop lighter.

Try putting the battery back in and taking out the ram...

thanks, removed the ram and put it back in again and put the battery in and it turned on

thats annoying cause the battery weighs a ton and has a life of 30 secs lol... i need to buy a new one =/
