Hi, well my laptop is shutting down randomly right now, and I don't know why. I checked the electrical connections and they're fine.

It shutdown again, right now, when I was doing a Spybot Search and Destroy scan...
Shutdown AGAIN, while doing a PC Mark 04 stress test...

Just shutting off. I think it's over heating because the fan is turning like crazy most of the time. I elevated the laptop and pointed a big fan underneath and all the tests which made it shut down before worked. So i'm pretty sure it's heat. Since it's my moms, she say's she'll call Dell (yes, it's a dell.. :() to see if they can exchange it. Is overheating a product defect and will Dell accept to exchange it (we still have warranty)?

As long as you have not messed with it (inside) at all, they should accept it.

Yeah, if it's still under warranty, send it in. If it's shutting off, there can be a lot of things wrong. Could be power supply, CPU over heating, or unstable components on the motherboard. Either way, I doubt it's not software correctable.

Ew, that's one of Dells disposables. You can find a bunch on eBay with all sorts of problems on it. I've got one that I use for display purposes for customers (not working of course). Like I said, if it's still under warranty, got call them (in India), and send it back in.
