Laptop Problems

I have a Dell Latitude laptop that I am trying to fix for a friend. I turn the computer on and it stays on for roughly 10 seconds then just shuts off. Does anyone know what could be the problem?

We could really use some more info here... Does the screen show at all? Is this when it's on battery or AC. Have you checked to be sure the AC is still good? Any beeps? How old is the system?

Come on now, don't leave us in the dark ;P

heat problems maybe? like The_Other_One said, we need more info to really be of any help

Ok, it does this both with the battery and with the AC. What happens is it turns on, it starts the start up process, you know, the memory test and whatnot like they always do. Then it just shuts back off again. I was suspecting the AC because when I plug it in, the light on the box does not turn on. But then would it even turn on at all if the battery was dead?

take out the battery. just leave the ac plugged in. if it doesnt turn on then the ac is dead
