Laptop Protection.

Ill be using a laptop pretty soon. Ill be at the usual hotspots at cafes and such.


Just want to be protected.
Ill have Avast!. Then, I need a firewall. Ill be using vista home premium, with 1gb of ram.

Whats a good firewall and other programs ill be needing?

Most importantly, make sure you dont have any shared files or folders when you connect to a hotspot or someone elses wireless lan.

Certainly you know what a shared folder is...

By default nothing is shared except the "shared files" folder, but if you see any folder or file with a hand underneath it, it means its shared. But the best thing to do is disable file sharing all together.
 
zonealarm doesnt work with vista , avg, spybot both work with vista and i think the built in firewall is quit good thats what i use.

I may get kasperky 2006 internet security. Thats a firewall and antivirus right?


And I know what a shared folder is, but how do i deactivate it or something.
Since, Ill be on a shared connection.
