Laptop Question

I've been looking over some laptops and my mother personally wants this one:

But I've been looking around and I see these two:

From what I see the Sony is $300 or more than the rest but the Gateways are 1.6GHz (same as Sony), the Sony has 512MB memory (both Gateways have 1GB), all three have 15.4inch screens, all three have DVDRW and the two Gateways have more HD space than the Sony. What I want to know is why the Sony is so expensive compared to the two Gateways which are its equivalent if not better. I might be completely missing something but I still want to be sure cause if the case is that the Gateways are better for the buck I'd rather buy one of them.

Ya I saw that one also but I had already posted two other laptops and didn't feel the need to post a third. What I really want to know is why is the Sony so much more expensive? I personally can't find a logical explanation.
 
That's the second Gateway laptop you posted... !!!
And I can't find a logical reason for the sony to be that expensive too.
